| S.P.iR.iT History
Established in 1989 for the purpose of assisting the then Carlow College Admissions Office, the Student Promotion and Recruitment Team (S.P.iR.iT.) formed to teach prospective students about college life and particularly about being a student at Carlow.
Throughout the years, more and more Carlow students joined S.P.iR.iT. to share their positive experiences at Carlow with high school students planning on attending a higher education institution. S.P.iR.iT. assisted the admissions staff by providing tours of the campus to prospective students and their families, hosting students in the residence halls during Overnight Programs, and helping the Admissions staff at events. All of this was done on a voluntary basis.
During the birth of a new century, S.P.iR.iT. began to grow by leaps and bounds. Due to the overwhelming interest in S.P.iR.iT., the Admissions office began to assemble a hierarchy of S.P.iR.iT. Team Leaders. At that time, they also decided to have S.P.iR.iT. be a part of Student Government Association (SGA); S.P.iR.iT. would now be student-run under the assistance of the Admissions Office. Being under the SGA would not only provide extra funding, but also allow S.P.iR.iT. to gain access to other student-run organization on the Carlow's campus.
In 2002-2003, S.P.iR.iT. won the "Outstanding New Student Organization" from the annual SGA awards. This award solidified the strength, hard work, and dedication of its members.
In August 2004, Carlow was named a University and the S.P.iR.iT. Ambassadors were at their highest membership ever!
Today, S.P.iR.iT. has carried on its traditions through the new generation of Ambassadors. There are now ten tiers within the S.P.iR.iT. organization including:
And now, because of the importance of their work, some positions are even paid. Also note that all Admissions/Financial Aid work study students are under the umbrella of the S.P.iR.iT. organization.
